Stärke has a Winner with the New XVI Series of Forklifts

Introduced last year, Stärke's XVI line of internal combustion counterbalance forklifts continues to impress dealers and end-users alike with premium features including a wide view mast design, enhanced ergonomics, exceptional maneuverability and unmatched stability.

Wide View Mast Design

To maximize productivity without sacrificing safety or risking product damage, the new XVI line of forklifts from Stärke provides industry-leading visibility in all four directions with an innovative clear view mast and an improved cab design. The difference between the XVI line and the competition is most noticeable in models equipped with a fully enclosed cab (optional), which offers protection from the elements without further obstructing operator visibility.

Enhanced Ergonomics

To combat the risks associated with repetitive strain injuries and operator fatigue, Stärke’s new XVIs include a series of ergonomic design elements to improve comfort levels and simplify operation. Following a product demonstration, two operators experienced with both Hyster and Yale forklifts commented on the spacious cabin and effortless operation provided by the XVI’s small steering wheel, cowl mounted controls, adjustable steering column and deluxe suspension seat.

Always In Control

Regardless of the application, all forklift operators want to be confident in their ability to control and maneuver a forklift in a safe and efficient manner. With the XVI Series, operators are quick to note the ease of operation and maneuverability of the unit. This is due, in part, to the tight turning radius and advanced controls of the XVI Series, which allows these forklifts to operate in the same amount of space as slightly smaller units without issue. Likewise, the XVI Series offers incredible load stability, even at full lift heights and uneven ground.

Energy Series of XVI Forklifts - Features and Benefits

After receiving recognition as one of the fastest growing companies in Canada for the second straight year and expanding its range of Class II and Class III equipment with the introduction of an electric dock stocker, reach rider truck and an order picker, Stärke is looking to follow up on a landmark year in 2016 with the emergence of its new XVI series of 3,000 – 7,000 lb. 3 and 4-wheel electric counterbalanced forklifts in 2017. Designed to provide economical, environmentally-friendly production in a variety of applications, the XVI Series of electric forklifts easily justifies the early praise it's received thus far.

Ideal for Indoor Operations – The new XVI series of electric forklifts was designed to operate in a variety of indoor and environmentally controlled applications including warehouses, factories, inside tractor trailers and shipping containers, greenhouse operations, and locations within the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. With a solid construction heavy duty chassis, the XVI’s compact and durable frame results in a 20% increase in operator protection from falling loads or debris yet still maintains a tight 85° turning radius through independent drive motors. Together with the XVI’s high visibility round bracket mast design, the XVI energy series delivers all the maneuverability necessary to operate within narrow aisles and other confined spaces.

Efficient Production – All of the major components within XVI energy series forklifts work in conjunction to maximize overall efficiency regardless of the application. With the integration of a fully programmable Zapi AC controller, the XVI’s lift and travel speeds, torque, turning and braking can all be adjusted to better suit an individual operator or the unique demands of a given application. Meanwhile, the XVI’s highly efficient AC motors and regenerative braking system supplement the capacity of its large domestic battery compartment, for high powered 36v or 48v batteries, and further extend the XVI’s impressive battery life and low operating costs.

Operator Ergonomics and Comfort – The XVI series of electric forklifts incorporates a number of features which address longstanding issues revolving around operator comfort and vehicle ergonomics. From an operational perspective, the vehicles efficient braking system, AC traction and hydraulic motors minimize discomfort by reducing the levels of noise and vibration produced by the forklift. Then, to ensure that its operators remain in a comfortable and natural positon, the XVI energy series of forklifts includes a deluxe suspension seat, tilt steering wheel, multifunctional armrest, cowl-mounted hydraulic controls, a high-mounted rear combination light and an enlarged headlight with optional LED light system.

Reduced Costs and Easier Maintenance – In addition to improving the cost of operation, efficiency and productivity of XVI electric forklifts, the Zapi AC Controller provides an additional layer of protection through several failsafe systems. To prevent the vehicles from causing an accident by rolling backwards while on a ramp or other grade, an anti-rollback mechanism automatically stops the vehicle if the brake is released. The Zapi Controller also recognizes electrical malfunctions such as shorted wires, open circuits and reversed polarity on charger cables to inhibit any additional damage from being done. The Zapi AC Controller is also programmed to send the vehicle into safe mode in the event that the engine or inverters begin to overheat.

By incorporating such innovative engineering and design features in the XVI series of three-wheel and four-wheel electric forklifts, Stärke continues to demonstrate its commitment to develop equipment solutions based upon emerging market forces, customer needs and changes to our environment. A Different Breed of Forklift Manufacturer

For small to medium-sized dealerships, the prevailing market conditions in the material handling industry threaten to fundamentally change their day-to-day operations. The prospect of territorial restructuring looms as corporate mergers redefine the industry and areas of prime responsibility. Coupled with this uncertainty are inflexible dealership contracts, which provide little relief against economic instability or declining demand. For forklift dealerships caught up in the margins of such changes, it’s becoming clear that they will no longer receive the support they need to thrive moving forward.

At this point, some readers may think the circumstances described above are far closer to dystopian fiction than they are to day-to-day reality. But, the unfortunate fact of the matter is, such circumstances are far too familiar for many dealerships. For those who have grown tired of the status quo and agree “that it makes sense to expect peace of mind at a fair price,” perhaps it’s time to consider a different breed of manufacturer – Stärke Material Handling Group. Our pitch to dealers begins with our full line of forklifts and material handling equipment including ICE and electric forklifts, pallet trucks, straddle stackers, reach trucks, order pickers and electric utility vehicles but we offer much more to our dealers than quality equipment.

At Stärke, our entire business model is built upon the quality of our equipment and the support we provide to our integrated network of small to medium-sized dealerships. We prefer a cooperative approach to dealership development and recognize that our success is predicated upon the success of our dealers. Rather than a legally binding contract filled with unrealistic quotas or stock commitments, Stärke dealers enter an agreement, where we acknowledge the importance of our commitments and how those commitments should shape our goals moving forward.

To further our shared objectives, Stärke is committed to providing fast and responsive support for all of our dealers, whether it is related technical issues, sales inquiries or marketing. Our streamlined technical support network helps to minimize response times on warranty claims and parts requests, while our dedicated marketing department works directly with our dealers to bolster their local marketing efforts. And, unlike many other off-shore manufacturers, Stärke advertises to both dealers and end-users alike.

Our plan for growth and development continues to impress industry experts as we continue to receive recognition within the industry. Our rapid growth earned us a place on Profit 500's list of the fastest growing companies in Canada in both 2015 and 2016. Meanwhile, our innovative electric equipment earned us a spot on Food Logistics Top Green Providers list in 2016.

As our motto says: Stärke is Strength. This isn't just a tagline, it perfectly describes how the Stärke brand performs in product design, customer service and value. It demonstrates our commitment to our dealers, customers, and our products. Stärke offers one of the largest selections of material handling equipment in the industry including class I through VI products making our dealers instantly competitive on every deal that they are in. Because, it makes sense to expect peace of mind at a fair price!

Repetitive Strain Injuries, Forklifts and Ergonomics

Over the past 20 years, businesses throughout North America have begun to recognize the risks associated with lower back pain (LBP), repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) and musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs). As 3 of the most common causes behind injury-related absenteeism and workers’ compensation claims in North America, such injuries have a significant impact on the overall economy as businesses lose billions of dollars in lost productivity, wages, and workplace insurance claims. In response to this development, businesses and forklift manufacturers have begun investing in a long neglected area of occupational health and safety – that of operator ergonomics.

How Inadequate Ergonomics Harm Your Bottom-line:

As an occupation, forklift operators are at a high risk of developing repetitive strain and musculoskeletal injuries since they spend an inordinate amount of time in a stationary or seated position. As with other professions that require employees to spend long, uninterrupted periods of time in a seated position, forklift operators are at risk of developing muscle strains, soreness and cramping in their back, neck, shoulders and arms. However, unlike their desk-bound counterparts, forklift operators are regularly subjected to additional movements and strains that exasperate an already detrimental situation.

Over the course of a regular workday, it is not uncommon for a forklift operator to shift into an awkward position or contort themselves in an effort to maintain visibility while maneuvering their equipment. This is particularly prevalent in confined, indoor workplaces as forklift operators are regularly forced to avoid obstacles, navigate through narrow aisles and around tight corners. And, since forklifts are designed without a suspension system, even the most basic operations tend to subject a forklift operator to incessant vibrations and jolts. Taken together, these two factors alone may prematurely degrade the vulnerable joints and connective tissues of the body, as well as gradually compress the spinal column and cause damage to the delicate discs between the vertebrae.

Even before taking the physical risks associated with RSIs and MSIs into consideration, poorly designed operator ergonomics can threaten the overall productivity and profitability of any business or operation. In the absence of ergonomically designed supports and equipment, forklift operators are far more likely to experience high levels of fatigue which may lead to decreased alertness, fatigue and physical strain, poor decision-making and confusion. Fatigued operations are not only unable to maintain optimal levels of productivity, they also pose a significantly higher risk to the business’s property, inventory, equipment, and co-workers alike.

How Stärke Equipment Innovations Can Help:

To ensure that the end of an operator’s shift is just as productive as the beginning, Stärke’s new XVI series of counterbalanced forklifts includes a number of ergonomic features and improvements when compared to other, similar models.

Starke Pro Series Cab footwell cowl

On a basic level, designing an ergonomic forklift begins with the design and arrangement of the operator’s seat and the vehicle’s control system. Unlike the equipment they operate, forklift operators rarely come in standard sizes and dimensions. To promote proper posture regardless of the operator`s physical features, the XVI series of forklifts is equipped with an adjustable suspension seat and steering column, an ample foot well to allow the foot pedals operated at a comfortable angle, and a long operator assist grip for easy movement in and out of the forklift.

As part of this systemic approach to operator comfort and safety, Stärke’s new range of XVI forklifts also includes a number of innovative parts and components which limit the physical strain of operators even further. With a newly designed wide-view mast system, Stärke effectively limits the health and safety risks that result from poor visibility. To reduce the noise and vibration, the XVI was engineered to include dampening devices that insulate the engine and a one-piece floating cabin further reduces the vibration felt within the operator’s compartment.

Taken as a whole, the innovative engineering and ergonomic features included in Stärke’s new XVI series of counterbalanced forklifts represent a categorical improvement over other models within its class. In this way, Stärke continues to demonstrate its commitment to develop product solutions based upon emerging market forces, customer needs and changes to our environment. There’s strength in numbers, and Stärke is strength.

How Long Will Your Forklift Tires Last?

To date, no exact science or formula exists for determining how long a set of forklift tires will last. Rather, maintenance staff, mechanics and technicians must examine a number of factors to determine when it’s time to find a replacement set of tires. Several factors must be taken into consideration here, including the total number of operating hours and intensity of use, driving habits or operator style, application type (i.e., long runs without a load, excessive speed or rotation with a load), operating conditions, the tire type and compound, as well as the vehicle’s average load weight.

Note: these figures should be used as estimations only. Determining the exact amount of acceptable wear for a given tire depends upon the size of the tires and the conditions in which it is operated. To avoid accidents, injury or damage, regular tire inspections should be included as part of a vehicle`s monthly maintenance schedule.

Consider replacing pneumatic forklift tires after the outside diameter has worn approximately 2” to 3". With press on cushion tires, replacements should be considered after the outside diameter is worn by 1 1/2" or when 30-40% of the tire’s rubber is gone. Beyond tread wear, there are other signs to look for as an indication of overall tire wear including undercutting, chunking and chipping.
  • Undercutting occurs as a result of overloading and sharp, aggressive steering. This causes the rubber to begin receding from the metal band at the center of the tire.
  • Chunking, as the name suggests, is when large pieces or chunks of rubber detach from the surface of the tire. Common causes include collisions with objects, repetitive contact with debris or refuse, and driving over coarse/jagged terrain.
  • Chipping refers to damage to the surface of the tire such as incisions, slashes, nicks, punctures, and divots. Like chunking, this is often caused when cushion tires are regularly operated on coarse or irregular surfaces.

While your forklift tires can still be “operational” with significant wear, there are a number of benefits to replacing worn out or deteriorating forklift or lift truck tires. Beyond the immediate safety concerns, there are also financial, operational and productivity risks to take into consideration.  By avoiding the costs associated with replacing worn out forklift tires, owners can incur far greater maintenance fees down the road as the additional vibration, strain and shock placed on essential components can result in equipment failures, downtime and costly repairs.

Worn tires also have an impact on your operation’s productivity and efficiency as the increased vibration, instability and stress can result in above average operator strain, thereby reducing the operator’s ability to control the vehicle. This, in turn, limits the vehicle’s fuel efficiency, speed, turning capacity, and stopping power.
